World Taekwondo is rapidly growing across Ethiopia, structured from national and regional levels down to local districts. Engaging a vast number of youth, the sport creates significant employment opportunities and shows great promise for enhancing Ethiopia’s Olympic competitiveness. Beyond competition, Taekwondo instills self-control, an indomitable spirit, humility, integrity, and perseverance those etiquettes are essential values for building a disciplined citizenry. Recognizing this impact, the Ethiopian government actively supports the National Federation to maximize the sport's benefits for the nation.

It is with great pride and honor that I welcome athletes, coaches, referees, clubs, supporters, and the entire taekwondo community to our federation’s digital home. Taekwondo is more than a sport — it is a discipline that teaches respect, perseverance, integrity, and unity. As a federation, we are committed to developing world-class athletes while promoting the values and spirit of taekwondo throughout Ethiopia.

About

As the supreme and exclusive governing body for World Taekwondo in Ethiopia, the Federation oversees the sport's national growth. It manages athlete development, competition standards, and hosts or participates in national, continental, and international tournaments. Additionally, the Federation has the sole authority to award Dan promotions, conduct national level coach and referee training, and lead regional federations, national clubs,Professional associations, and Taekwondo centers of excellence across universities

Core Responsibilities and Strategic Roles of the Ethiopian World Taekwondo Federation

We are committed to athlete growth, fair play, and technical excellence in all federation activities.

1. Inclusiveness and Promoting the Sport's Reach

Working to expand Taekwondo across all regions, city administrations, schools, and institutions, ensuring it is accessible to citizens of all ages, genders, and physical abilities. Organizing annual national championships and open tournaments tailored to various age groups and skill levels.

2. Enhancing Technical Capacity and Standards (Technical Excellence)

Ensuring compliance with World Taekwondo (WT) and Kukkiwon rules and guidelines to maintain the sport's quality and international standards. Overseeing and regulating Dan/Poom promotion exams domestically, and facilitating the issuance of internationally recognized certificates for professionals.

3. Professional Capacity Building

Organizing seminars, upgrading, and refresher courses for referees, coaches, and technical officials. Developing, upgrading, and licensing refereeing and coaching qualification standards.

4. Building and Managing the National Team

Setting up the national team by scouting and recruiting high-performing athletes from domestic competitions. Facilitating training and favorable conditions for the national team to represent the country effectively and achieve successful results in the Olympics, All-Africa Games, and World Championships.

5. Digitalization and Modernized Operations

Registering and organizing data of clubs, coaches, referees, and athletes using a modern online registration platform. Promptly disseminating directives, competition invitations, and relevant sport updates to the Taekwondo community via the website and social media channels.

6. International Relations and Partnership

Working closely with World Taekwondo (WT), World Taekwondo Headquarter(Kukkiwon),the African Taekwondo Union (AFTU), the FDRE Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Ethiopian Olympic Committee, and other partner organizations. Coordinating and facilitating support and educational opportunities (Partnership Programs) obtained from international institutions for local professionals.
